PARTICIPANTS' PROFILE: The participants in the local bikepacking events in Harghita were mainly young people aged 18 to 30 from Gheorgheni and the surrounding localities, most of them involved in sports, volunteering or youth initiatives. The group brought together both Romanian and ethnic Hungarian young people, which helped promote intercultural dialogue and inclusion.

Many of them had little previous experience with endurance sports or active tourism, but showed a strong interest in outdoor activities and a healthy lifestyle. At the same time, they were looking for opportunities to grow through sport, to test their limits and to learn how to work together as a team.

The participants were motivated by the wish to combine adventure, sustainability and movement, discovering the natural and cultural sites of the county through an eco-friendly way of travelling. The events especially attracted young people from rural and semi-urban areas, who needed activities that were accessible and relevant to their community.

DESCRIPTION: The local bikepacking events in Harghita were designed to promote bikepacking as a way of moving, exploring and connecting with nature. Through them, we want to introduce young people to a sustainable and accessible way of travelling, one that combines sport, adventure and the discovery of the county's natural and cultural heritage.

The activities took place on varied routes, through mountain areas, traditional villages and forest roads, giving participants the chance to test their physical limits and build team spirit. Each event included sessions on preparing equipment, safety and navigation, followed by group rides of 40–70 km. The atmosphere was friendly and collaborative, promoting values such as health, respect for nature, cooperation and inclusion. The aim of these actions is to inspire more and more young people from Harghita to embrace bikepacking as an active and balanced way of life.
