Objectives and Activities

The main goal of "Safe and Inclusive" was to help young people think critically about the content they see and share online, and to behave responsibly in the digital environment.

The activity had three specific objectives:

• Objective 1: Develop the participants' critical thinking by analysing online content and deciding how to respond to it.

• Objective 2: Build their digital citizenship competences and their sense of responsibility for what they post and share.

• Objective 3: Help them recognise fake news, misleading messages and cyberbullying, and identify ways to prevent them.

The workshop was structured in three parts:

Part 1 – Getting started: The session began with an energising game that set a positive learning climate and encouraged cooperation between participants.

Part 2 – Like, Share or Stop? The participants were split into teams and analysed four scenarios inspired by real online situations. Using the Like – Share – Stop method, each team decided whether a piece of content should be liked, shared or stopped, and had to argue its choice. In the second half, the teams worked on more complex scenarios: fake news spreading in group chats, misleading messages, cyberbullying and what responsible behaviour online looks like. For each situation, they came up with solutions and ways to prevent it.

Part 3 – Debrief: The activity ended with a debriefing session, where participants looked back at what they had learned and discussed how they can apply it in their everyday lives.

Why the Activity Was Implemented

How do you react when you see a fake news story? What do you do if you witness cyberbullying? And how quickly can a piece of information spread when it is shared without being checked?

For young people, these are not abstract questions. A big part of their everyday communication already happens in group chats and on social media, where a rumour or a hurtful message can reach dozens of people in a matter of minutes. We wanted to give them a simple tool they can use every time they scroll: stop, think, and then decide what to do.

Results and Impact

By working through the scenarios themselves, the participants developed their critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills, as well as a more responsible approach to technology. Most importantly, they left knowing that each of us can contribute to a safer and more inclusive internet.

The activity contributes to the Erasmus+ objectives of promoting inclusion, active participation and digital citizenship, and of developing the key competences young people need to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.
