Our Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

At Cloud Five, we believe that every youth project should contribute not only to personal growth and social inclusion but also to the protection and regeneration of our planet. Our Go Green Strategy outlines how we embed sustainability principles into every aspect of our work — from daily operations and project management to mobility logistics and learning activities.

We are committed to acting responsibly, inspiring others, and continually improving our environmental practices in line with the European Green Deal and Erasmus+ environmental priorities.

🌱 1. Eco-Friendly Accommodation

We select accommodations that:

• Use energy-efficient lighting, insulation, and heating systems.

• Are located close to nature or within walking distance of project venues.

• Implement water-saving and recycling systems.

• Provide healthy, local, and preferably seasonal food options.

• Encourage participants to limit waste, reuse materials, and reduce single-use plastics during their stay.

We assess venues based on their sustainability practices and prefer those with verified eco-certifications or community-driven environmental initiatives.

🚆 2. Green and Responsible Transport

We actively reduce the environmental impact of travel by:

• Prioritizing train, bus, or carpooling over flights whenever possible.

• Encouraging low-carbon travel options for participants and team members.

• Coordinating shared transfers between airports and venues.

• Promoting cycling and walking during project activities.

• Providing carbon footprint awareness sessions and tools to measure emissions.

Whenever air travel is unavoidable, we offset emissions through certified reforestation or carbon-reduction programs.

🌿 3. Environmental Education and Awareness

We believe sustainability begins with understanding. All Cloud Five activities integrate non-formal learning around environmental topics, such as:

• Climate change and global citizenship

• Local biodiversity and ecosystem protection

• Waste management and recycling systems

• Green entrepreneurship and sustainable lifestyles

Through workshops, creative sessions, eco-games, and local actions, we help participants connect environmental theory with daily habits and long-term behavioral change.

♻️ 4. Waste Reduction and Responsible Consumption

We follow the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” approach in all project phases:

• We minimize paper use through digital tools and e-certificates.

• We ban single-use plastics during events.

• We encourage refillable bottles, reusable dishes, and cloth bags.

• We separate waste at source using clearly labeled recycling bins.

• We raise awareness about responsible food consumption, including:

o Taking only as much food as one can eat.

o Composting organic waste whenever possible.

o Donating surplus food locally.

All participants are introduced to these principles during arrival orientations and reminded through visible eco-signage and team role modeling.

💧 5. Resource Efficiency and Energy Saving

We promote mindful use of all natural resources:

• Turn off lights, heating, and electronic devices when not in use.

• Avoid unnecessary water use (e.g., shorter showers, no water waste during activities).

• Use natural light and ventilation whenever possible.

• Choose local suppliers to minimize transportation emissions.

• Reuse and upcycle materials for creative workshops and decorations.

Our team leads by example to foster a culture of environmental respect among participants.

🌎 6. Sustainable Partnerships and Collaboration

We work with like-minded organisations that share our environmental values. Our partnerships are based on:

• Transparency and shared sustainability standards.

• Exchanging best practices on environmental management.

• Encouraging joint actions that support local or international green initiatives.

• Supporting community-based eco-projects, such as clean-up actions, tree planting, and public awareness campaigns.

Through international cooperation, we aim to strengthen the youth sector’s contribution to the global sustainability transition.

🔍 7. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Improvement

Our environmental commitment is an ongoing process. We ensure accountability and improvement through:

• Regular environmental risk and impact assessments.

• Tracking resource use (energy, water, waste) during projects.

• Gathering participant feedback on sustainability measures.

• Including environmental indicators in project evaluations and reports.

• Updating this strategy annually with input from our partners and youth workers.

🌤️ 8. Everyday Green Habits for Participants

We encourage everyone involved in Cloud Five projects to:

• Bring reusable bottles and cups.

• Pack eco-friendly toiletries and reusable bags.

• Prefer digital materials over printed ones.

• Practice mindful consumption and respect for nature.

• Leave every place cleaner than they found it.

Environmental sustainability is not an obligation but a shared lifestyle and value.

🌳 9. Our Vision

Cloud Five strives to be a model of environmental responsibility in the youth sector.By integrating green principles into our organizational culture, we aim to:

• Reduce our ecological footprint.

• Inspire eco-consciousness among young people.

• Support the goals of the European Climate Pact and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
